It is expressed by monocytes and its progenitor or derived cells. It plays an essential role in the regulation of survival, proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic precursor cells, especially mononuclear phagocytes. It is up-regulated in some human tumors such as carcinoma of ovary and breast.
